About BiteRated

Built on a simple belief: dog owners deserve evidence, not marketing

BiteRated is an independent dog food scoring platform founded in 2026 by Manan Buch. The idea was born out of frustration: walking down a pet food aisle, every bag promises "premium nutrition," "natural ingredients," and "vet recommended" — yet almost none of those claims can be verified by the person holding the bag.

We set out to change that. BiteRated reads every ingredient in a commercial dog food product and turns it into a transparent, citation-backed quality score on a 0 to 100 scale. BiteRated is currently pre-launch: Manan is building the scoring engine and the first product database now, and we're adding more products as fast as we can do them justice.

“A dog can't read the label, and most owners shouldn't have to decode it either. Our job is to do the science honestly, show our work, and never let a brand buy a better number.”
Manan Buch, Founder of BiteRated

How we score

Our published methodology is grounded in peer-reviewed canine nutrition science and the regulatory standards set by AAFCO and the NRC. We use a two-axis architecture that separates nutritional quality from evidence confidence — so a score never pretends to know more than the available data supports.

Every weight, threshold, and penalty in the scoring rubric is written down and openly documented. If you disagree with how we score something, you can see exactly why we scored it that way — and the research we relied on.

Our independence

No brand pays for a score. Not for a better one, not for a faster review, not to make a bad one disappear. Independence is not a feature of BiteRated — it is the foundation the entire platform stands on.

Who's behind it

Right now, BiteRated is Manan — founded in 2026 and run from Spain. It started as a personal project after one too many evenings spent cross-referencing ingredient panels against research papers, and grew into the conviction that this work should be public. As the platform grows, so will the people behind it — but the independence rules will never change.
